Windham County resident Mariusz Kalinowski, age 48, of Woodstock, was sentenced to seven months in prison on Wednesday, April 26 for tax fraud, according to the US Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut.
According to federal officials, Kalinowski is the owner of Webster, Massachusetts-based Kalinowski General Construction, Inc., in Worcester County, which provides residential and commercial construction services in both Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Between the 2010 and 2013 tax years, Kalinowski failed to report $927,828 in income from this business on his personal federal tax returns, and as a result, failed to pay around $174,746 in taxes on that income.
Kalinowski pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false tax return on Tuesday, Nov. 29, and has since paid the taxes that he owed to the IRS, federal officials said.
He is currently released on bond but will report to prison on Tuesday, June 20.
In addition to his seven-month sentence, Kalinowski will also be required to serve one year of supervised release and pay a $16,500 fine.
